The longer the coat is kept, the more time-consuming its care. The dense hair tends to mat if it is not combed and brushed regularly (1-2 times a week). However, if the Barbet is shorn regularly, the time required is kept within limits. However, that you need to vacuum less than other dog breeds is a myth. The Barbet loses little hair, but brings a lot of dirt into the house through its fur.

The ears of a Barbet must also receive attention. Due to its long floppy ears, dirt often gets into the ear. This must be cleaned regularly. Some Barbet also have a strong hair growth in the ear, so that this must be plucked regularly. If the Barbet learns this very early, the plucking later is no problem.
